“Wendy…? Since I’ve known you…? It seems like you just keep getting…Younger?!” said the guy at fusion dance, who is easily 10 years my junior, as he shook his head in disbelief.

“Karl, I’ve been through so much in the three years since I started partner dancing,” I answered. “When you met me, I was sick and I didn’t know it. I was overwhelmed by being a mom with two young kids managing a team of eight while my husband was traveling around the country doing work he loved. I am soooo much happier and healthier than I was back then.” Since we’d met I’d lost 50 pounds, recovered from adrenal fatigue and the Epstein-Barr virus, left my marriage, came out as polyamorous, then fell in love with a couple women. It was a big fucking couple years.

Like I said above, my husband and I broke up on Mother’s Day three years ago, after fifteen years together because I wanted to open up our relationship and he didn’t. Here is the short(ish) version of the story of our marriage and the impetus for our divorce.

The Smooth Years

We met and fell in love in Paris when I was a very mature 18 and he was 32. I was a virgin, he was disillusioned with the many one-night stands…
