Please Don’t Bore Me with Great Content Alone

3 ways to turn me from an email subscriber to a raving fan

Do fake glasses make you trust me more or less?

I am rapidly growing impatient with people who are building (or trying to build) an online business without getting real and vulnerable.

Yes, I can appreciate those people who have their sh*t together enough to send out high-quality, topic-specific content on a regular basis. Or even just semi-regularly.

It definitely builds trust and positions you as a go-to person on the topic.

But it doesn’t make me fall in love with you. And even if I recommend you to my friends, it doesn’t make me rave about you as a person.

It doesn’t make me LOYAL to you as a human being I adore.

It makes me like your content.

And that’s it.

What makes me loyal to you as a person, what turns me into a fan who will follow you and rave about you for decades to come is when you get up-close, real and personal.

#1: Share Your Heart

How are you feeling today? How are you feeling about your business? How are you feeling about your personal life? What lights you up inside? What pisses you off? I want to know you. Show me your heart and I can’t help feeling closer to you.

I don’t just want to know that you can help me with X, Y or Z. I want to know the person who can help me with X, Y or Z.

#2: Share Your Challenges — In Real Time

I understand that sometimes there are confidentiality issues… and other people’s privacy to consider. You aren’t obligated to share anything you don’t want to. But it irks me when I hear coaches say that they share about their challenges “only after they’ve gotten through them and have had time to process them.”

F*ck that.

I want to be reminded that I’m not alone in my raw, tender feelings. I want inspiration from someone who knows solutions and also speaks about the challenges. I don’t want the neat ’n’ tidy “peace & enlightenment” that can look an awful lot like spiritual bypassing.
